Be your own Best Friend

2/7/2014

A good friend knows how to listen.  They accept us as we are, with an expectation that we will shine in time. My close friends call me on my delusions and laugh when I get too ambitious.  They help me figure out what I am feeling and offer a better solution if need be.  Most of all, they love me and that is what I count on.

We are being asked to establish this connection inside, to become better friends.  To do this, we allow what we are feeling without judgement, notice how we are being affected in the moment and acknowledge what is important. We are developing ears that listen and commune, assisting us to access and fulfill our needs and desires.
We know how to do this pretty naturally with others.  Make sure that the same rules apply inside.
If you overshoot your mark and say something too harshly to yourself, say you are sorry.
If you are not paying attention to your needs, make more time for yourself.
Acknowledge your feelings and find out what you need. Use the resources of your heart.

It is my birthday today. so how appropriate! Be my own best friend. This too has been a long journey. I've slowly learned to appreciate my own talents, starting with even realizing I have some. The kindness of friendship for self has been a slow parallel learning curve. I noticed when I needed nurturing critical/analytical voice from my friends last week they were able to do so easily. In my friendship to self, what I knew was to keep breathing through the disappointment until I understood the underlying message. In summery I love today's message.

Learning to become friends with myself - again, this strikes a chord, as did developing a relationship with the Divine. I have made friends with my inner Naomi voice, my scary and fierce protector. We're integrating now so that I can speak strongly and know I can protect myself. What a long journey to becoming more whole. Thank you for more insight along the way, Nancy.
